DREAM.2

Middleweight Grand Prix First Round

Denis Kang vs. Gegard Mousasi

The last time we saw Kang, he got drilled by hyper Judoka Yoshihiro Akiyama.  Kang’s ascent was stopped a couple of years during the PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix.  Kang drew Misaki, substituting for injured Paulo Filho, in the finals.  Kang had a bum shoulder and sat back on his heels in route to a split decision loss.

Mousasi has been on a tear as of late, recently stopping Cyborg in Canada.  The level of contrast between standing and rolling will tell the story.  Can Mousasi roll with Kang?

Prediction: Kind of a weeding out fight.  Both guys are hanging around in the middle of the 185lb division.  Either 22 year old Mousasi arrives or Kang reasserts himself.  It’ll be interesting to see what happens when this fight hits the floor.  I like Mousasi via Decision.

Jacare Souza vs. Ian Murphy

Hmm, one of the great BJJ practitioners in the world against an amateur wrestler?

Prediction: Jacare either by submission or absolute beatdown from dominant position.

Masakatsu Funaki vs. Kiyoshi Tamura

Tamura was the workhorse for RINGS, Funaki the innovator and star of Pancrase.  Funaki had been retired since 2000, but came out of retirement at Dynamite! last year against Saku. He was in there just long enough to give an allergic reaction to the audience with all the dust he was carrying.  Funaki ceased his hyper conservative style long enough for Saku to drop levels and score a double leg.  Funaki did what he could to score a toe hold, but once Saku got side mount, the Kimura was academic.

Prediction: Tamura via KO Rd. 1, though Funaki will still have awesome hair.

Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Andrews Nakahara

Sakuraba’s place as a true legend and pillar of MMA is firmly in place.  Nowadays he is old and has some bleeding on the brain issues.

This is karate practitioner Nakahara’s first MMA fight.  You know what that means?

Prediction: Sakuraba via armbar Rd 1.

JZ Calvan vs. Shinya Aoki

This of course is the threematch.  The Yarennoka! New Year’s fight was canceled due to JZ’s knee injury, the DREAM.1 fight was thrown out after JZ landed an illegal elbow strike to Aoki’s spine, and here we are now.

What we learned from the first fight:  That we knew what we were talking about going into the first fight.  Aoki can’t handle JZ’s raw strength.  Even with a conservative strategy, you could see JZ’s superiority.  With Aoki’s magical rainbow submission tights, often all logic can be turned on its head.  JZ shouldn’t have any trouble defending submission attempts, and he shouldn’t even worry about the ground.

Prediction: Aoki has a mountain to climb.  JZ via KO Rd. 1

Other picks:

Zelg TKOs Sultanakhmedov

Dong Sik via dongbar over Oyama.  How could I not predict the dongbar?

Minowaman can pull a sub, but I like Kin to score a KO.

Tough week. But a great monday makes it all sweeter.

Went to the hard rock casino today in Hollywood and played my first multi table tournament for NL hold'em. 120 ppl at 100 dollar buy in and 200 rebuy. I didn't rebuy once and I made it to top 11 where we split 11 ways. 1390 was pretty good for a morning.

Then hit the sack when I woke up at 9:30 to go to gamestop. Yes it's here and in my possession. GTA IV!!!! it's everything you thought and more.

During the tournament, I heard about Pat Riley. It was bound to happen, but I hope he doesn't do what he did to Stan Van Gundy to the new coach. I'm a good person and I don't like injustices.

The Dolphins did a FANTASTIC job with the draft. Rebuilding with the lines and Chad Henne. I hope Brody is right and Michigan players can bring it.

Finally I bought tickets with some friends to go to yankee stadium in August to see them play the red sox. I've always wanted to see that rivalry and in the last season at yankee stadium, it's history that I cannot miss. I'll wear my (NL EAST leading) florida marlin Josh Beckett jersey proudly!

Photobucket

Have a good night everyone. Just wanted to let you guys know how i'm doing. Happy birthday yellowdart.

And I just saw the celtics score. That's why sports are loved. That arena in atlanta had to have been rocking. What a story!

Is it wrong that I am really looking forward to Sakuraba and Funaki wrestling even if they're totally old? I think your JZ/Aoki analysis is spot on again, however, I am really pulling for Aoki to engage the fabulous factor and pull out the win.

What I want to know is what about MINOWAMAN?

My thoughts on last night.....

(Permanent Link)
So wait, we're supposed to believe that somebody who has only been pushed as a winner for like 2 weeks and was a total jobber for years is now a credible threat to the person who we've been told is the best?

No, I'm not talking about Regal-HHH. HAWKS-CELTICS, SUCKA.

Doc Rivers performed some magic last night!

R8DR Update

(Permanent Link)
Finally got his info:

SENT: 30 DAYS OCJ W/C 3 DAYS T/S. 3 YRS PROB. REPORT TO PROB. W/IN 72 HRS OF RELEASE. DEFT. TO CONTACT LT. JAMES MARCHIONE DURITN THE PERIOD OF PROB. DEFT. UNDERGO PSYCH EVAL., COUNSELING AND TRTMT. EVAL TO BE DONE W/IN 60 DAYS. DEFT. WRITE A LETTER OF APOLOGY TO LT. W/IN 30 DAYS. DEFT. TO BE REMOVED FROM HCR UPON ENTRY INTO OCJ. PAY CC $30 PERMTH. BEG. W/IN 90 DAYS OF RELEASE.

If you can't figure out that jibba-jabba, here it is: 30 days in Orange County Jail, minus 3 days for time served. So he's locked up just shy of 4 weeks.

3 years probation and stuff seems normal for jail time, but I think R8DR has to be FUMING that he has to WRITE AN APOLOGY to the cop. That's just wrong.

I was probably going to go to Barnes and Noble tonight anyways, maybe I could pick up a book for him. Or we could just do what was already suggested and ship it through Amazon. Maybe Brody could do it since he already has his address? If Brody does, I'll send a check for a few bucks.

Having something to read would be a better way to pass the time than talking to yourself or trying to dig your way out with a spoon.

Is it ironic that Triple H is going to guarantee he hits 17 reigns, but it will never anywhere as memorable, impressive, or important as Flair's 16, yet Triple H actually has the power to change the product to make it more memorable?
I guarantee that I will forget where/when/who/how he won the title a year from now. This is no Flair/Steamboat, Flair/Vader, Flair/anyone else. If he rests at 17, how many will be great, or memorable, or important?
But, here is a guy with all the pull in the world who could make sure that his programs are monumentous, done properly, and done in a way that will be rememebered in video packages for years to come. Instead, he gets his big fireworks display at the end of a forgettable pay-per-view. I'm not hating per se, just food for thought.

Deployment pushed back=ROH?

(Permanent Link)
Okay, well my deployment to Iraq has been pushed back a few weeks, which means I could make the ROH show in Manhattan. I'd have to bus down on Friday night, hang out in NYC during the day and head back via bus on Sunday.

A few questions, for the blog.

*Are the tickets left for the show any good? I looked but have never been to the Manhattan Center before.

*Are there any good hotel deals available? I'd rather not spend tons of money...and I've been to NYC enough to know the hotels are $$$$.

*Who all is going from the blog? And are we meeting up at all?
